Robert M. Kertzner, M.D. is Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry at Columbia University. Within the Division of Gender, Sexuality, and Health at Columbia and NYSPI, Dr. Kertzner is an investigator with The Program for the Study of LGBT Health. He is the former Training Director of the HIV Center's NIMH supported Behavioral Sciences Research in HIV Infection Training Program.


Dr. Kertzner’s research, teaching, and clinical interests focus on mental health in LGBT people and include topics of adult development, psychological well-being, depression, and the effects of civil marriage on psychologicalhealth. Previously, Dr. Kertzner conducted research on the psychosocial impact of the HIV epidemic and the psychoneuroimmunological aspects of HIV infection on seropositive adults. Dr. Kertzner is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.
